Welcome To My Research Blog
If you are a Tutor and this is the assessment, I bid thee welcome. This is my research and development component for the colour project. All of my written commentary will solely exist on this page, however, it will be split amongst the posts as each post will cover a different element of my project. For example this post will cover my sketchbook work and the initial concept thought process. All of the images are of doodles or sketches done throughout the entire process. The t
From Charcoal to Chakras - Video
My Process My initial thoughts about my colour drove me to start my research by using my drawing and observational skills to capture marble statues due to their monochromatic nature. I then journeyed to the V and A museum in South Kensington and began to sketch as many figures as I could. I came across one figure in particular that i found fascinating. It was of this relaxing monk, teeming with calmness and serenity, perched upon a log from which he himself was carved from. T

The Exhibition
The basis of this project was to communicate the inherent qualites, or the biological, the cultural, historical, political or psychological functionality of our assigned colour. Ultimatlely I chose to discuss the correlation between the colour of ashes and their previous material colour using the Buddhist theory of Chakras as metaphors for reasoning. In order to fulfil my material experimention criteria I decided that a mixed media exhibition was the best possible solution fo
The Golden Shack (Cinema 4d File)
As an experiment into space and context I worked with materializing and lighting a 3d model of a Tibetan shack, giving it a 360 degree camera swing in cinema 4d so that one can see the whole thing. The material used has transparecy, reflection and glow properties that give it the look of gold. An uncommon depiction of the living standard of most monks that don't reside in temples. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/17572832/cinema%204d/house.c4d
The Spinning Himalayas (Cinema 4d File)
Before working of the golden shack I worked with applying splines to camera tracks. This spline in particular is called a helix. I set the "point of interest" of the camera coordinate on the pyramid and set the values of the sline track from 0 to 100. This gave the spinning and zoom effect that you can see in the video. The concept for this work is to replicate the Himalayas whislt giving it spiritual meaning. The particles floating across the scene are meant to resemble ball

Download The Laser Cut Files (Adobe Illustrator)
The files that i created in illustrator were largely an experiment to test the laser cutters capabilities when rendering drawings. Using a scanner and the sketches i had created from visiting the V and A museum i was able to convert them into mathematical shapes. These mathematical shapes were then set a specific stroke width and color, black for engraved and red for full penetration. The Information i used was gathered from "What the Buddha Taught" a book by Richard Gombrich
